Exceptions - Statement Against Interest
Alma is on trial for battery against Zelda. After the incident, Barbara gave a statement to the police that: "I hit Zelda--but Carla held her down and Alma was the one who hit her the most." Barbara is unavailable for trial, and the police officer testifies as to Barbara’s statement. Is it admissible?
  1. Yes, it is an exception to the hearsay rule as a statement against interest, making it inherently reliable.
  2. No, it is inadmissible hearsay.
  3. Neither of the above.
