Consumer credit cases involving credit cards, student loans, auto loans, and pay day loans are heard by judges every day in America’s courthouses. These cases, and the standards of evidence involved to prove the claims, present unique challenges to judges. To make matters even more challenging, the cases often involve self-represented litigants which may present other obstacles to achieving justice. After this webcast, judges will be able to (1) summarize some of the underlying consumer credit industry practices which affect litigation; (2) identify some recurring challenges facing judges in dealing with consumer credit litigants; and (3) develop strategies for dealing with common situations in consumer credit litigation. The National Judicial College designed this webcast for any judge who hears consumer credit cases, whether they are within the judicial or executive branch of government.
